Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Movie Review

This short movie review was solicited by no one, anywhere, ever.  But if this goes viral (as it should), I could be looking at a sometimes semi-part-time per diem job on the interweb being a high-profile-children's-movie reviewer.

The possibilities are pretty endless.

I could tell the movie was going to be an adult thriller when the lady next to me (who was holding her 9 year old son on her lap) exclaimed "Oh my!!!, Oh, goodness!, Ahhhhh, oh no!!" after every remotely dramatic part.  It was also a dead giveaway when the Chipmunks started talking.  I mean, what adult doesn't want to listen to high, squeaky voices for an hour and 27 minutes?  It had nail-biting parts where children went bungee jumping and made fire.  This skill set is what every parent wants for their offspring and all adults watching were probably super impressed (and jealous).

I knew that it was going to be a hit for the kids when Alvin ran into something painful and said, "My acorns!"  That was, of course, in addition to the Chipmunks singing modern songs and winning dance offs, which strangely happened quite frequently.  The values taught were that revenge never pays, people left alone on a desert island are crazy, and that sometimes you have to disobey your parental figure.  Definitely all the things I would want my own kids to embody.

The glorious silver lining in this "family friendly" hit was Tobias (David Cross) walking around for approximately one hour and 20 minutes in a full body pelican suit making snarky remarks in usual David Cross fashion.  Oh, and the Castaway reference.

Enjoy!

  1. This was a great review, it was reminiscent of the late Mr.Siskel (siskel&ebbert). it makes me almost want to watch it, but I tend to think twice about the mixture of live action and cartoon after the last Yogi the bear movie. However I think your doing a stellar job....in this review you will get comments that you can use in a star burst on the back of your book (let's face it you will write a book) things like...."she's the helen keller of our time" "best review of the decade" "she really knows what she's talking about" hope all of this helps 8)
