This past weekend reminded me of what it is like to have a life. When the summer months roll around, my life is chock full of things to do and places to be. I am alive and doing things. When the winter months invade my life, I hunker down just waiting for the warmth to come back and revitalize me (I read a lot).
Summary: I don't get out much when it's cold.
This last weekend was a change up for my winter routine. We had a service auction to raise money for local families in need on Friday, bringing in $4,600. Though I didn't get any pics of this event, I can tell you all about it. Since a picture is worth a thousand words I'm only going to be using 1/32nd of a picture.
We had a silent auction going on at the same time as the live auction. One of my home teachers was one of the auctioneers and it was just as ridiculous as our home teaching lessons usually turn out to be. There were a lot of items to be auctioned off but what caught my eye was the handwriting analysis. Who wouldn't want to be analyzed through handwriting? So I snatched that one up, as well as a homemade leather bound book that my friend has yet to finish. It is going to be awesome.
Our goal was between four and five thousand dollars so that we could spend at least $100 on each of the forty kids for whom we were going to buy presents. We totally met our goal and were able to go shopping and drop off the presents on Monday night. I'm glad our ward (congregation) stepped up and donated enough--even though we are all poor college students.
On Saturday, a group of us went up to SLC to go out to dinner and see the Nutcracker at the Capitol Theater. This I DO have pictures for:
Allison and I went up to do a live session at the Salt Lake temple, while our other friend Ashley went to do baptisms before we all met up for dinner at a restaurant which I can not remember the name of.
It was Brendan's birthday the next day so we had the servers sing to him. Then we headed off to the ballet. It was a FREEZING three block walk so we sprinted as fast as we could in our heels. Props to Ashley whose heels were higher than mine but still ran just as quickly so that we could get out of the cold ASAP.
It was a fun evening with good friends.

Tender mercy of the day: I went to the store to get some fabric softener and found out that my favorite kind was GONE!!! I was smelling others to find a new one, crushed that my fav one was to be no more, when I spied on the top shelf a little bit of black. My favorite kind comes in a black bottle so I got a little excited. I had to stretch really far and step on the bottom shelf to reach it, but I FOUND ONE!!!! And it was the big bottle, too!! Hopefully it will last a long time so that I can slowly ween myself off of it.
Good blog gf. Looks like fun. Next year i'll be there to go to the nutcracker with you. I WILL!!
