It was one of the best weekends that I have had in a loooooong time. You know that feeling when you are totally comfortable? Where everything is predictable and smooth? Where you're with people who have known you since before you were born? Where everything is second nature and decisions just seem innate (for example: should I get some Slurpees on our way to the river? Of course, no thinking needed. Should we go swimming before dinner? No brainer, yes. Will the food be delicious? Girl, please!).
WELL, that's the kind of weekend I had. It was like the ultimate comfort food to go from the land of single students, where I have only been a resident for 10 months, to HOME where I have been going since birth and being surrounded by people I love.
Let me tell you cyberfriends, it was certainly a weekend to remember. Why was I there, you ask?
Oh, y'know, this little lady turned 70:
We all came from different parts of the country (Alaska, Florida, Oregon, and Utah) to help celebrate. I was able to fly up Thursday night so when the extravaganza began, I was THERE.
It started off with some swimming before more cousins arrived which then lead to dinner at the park and more chillaxing with the fam. All I have to say is that I missed my calling in life as a volleyball player.
The next day started with a softball game where I was somehow on the over 40 team. They needed me.
Then we headed back to the river for some Jet Skiing. Y'all, my Gramma went Jet Skiing. It was awesome.
The next order of business was more swimming at the pool before THE BEST DINNER EVER: Gramma's Pulled Pork. It was perfect out in the back yard sitting around eating and chatting. A few Girls' Camp games came out to play and I'm pretty sure Kumbayah was sung while doing the Can Can.
That night we all participated in a scavenger hunt that led us around the neighborhood to sites that taught us more about what our Gramma has been doing for the last 70 years of her life. Our team totally would have won if the other team hadn't CHEATED. But it was all good and fun :)
The last day was church and then one last meal together before heading back to our respective corners of the country. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend filled with good food, people, and activities.
And we even managed to get a picture of all 28 people in our family. Funny how so many people can come from two.
Can't wait until next year! 71!!!!
