Moments That Matter Most

Watch this video and then we'll chat.

I got to go home this last weekend.  I hadn't been back since the end of June, which I realize isn't that long in the big scheme of things.  I know that a lot of people go for long periods of time without an opportunity to see family and that life keeps moving on.  Mine certainly does.  But the second I leave home is the second that the countdown to my next visit begins.  It could be weeks, months, or years; the important thing is that I know I'll be home again.

One of my favorite things about going home is hanging out with these yahoos:

I love driving them to school and quizzing them on spelling words, eating lunch with them, and picking them up and hearing all about their day.  I love it when they would rather scooter to the park and play than sit at home and watch TV.

We just did normal stuff.  I am grateful that I get to be a part of these boys' lives as they grow up.

Of course it wouldn't be fall if we didn't make a trip to the pumpkin patch.  We went to Bill's Berry Farm which is out in the vineyards so it smelled wonderful with all the grapes and berries to be harvested.  We made some apple cider with apple from the orchards we drove through to get to the pumpkin patch.

Throughout the weekend and on my forever long drive back to Utah, I kept stopping to think about how these small, seemingly normal things that we do everyday really do shape us.  If we let them pass us by then we don't always benefit from them.  When we pause for a moment and think about what we have and what is really important, we gain a perspective that broadens our capabilities and strengthens our desire to do better.

Now watch that video again and think of what little moments you could be capitalizing on.
