Some of you may remember this post about how I am blind and how (first world problem) I went on vacation and had to wear my glasses for like 3 months straight due to infiltrates that irritated my eyes.
You may also remember how I ALMOST WENT INSANE from having to wear glasses only (especially my dumb, way-too-big-for-my-apparently-tiny-baby-head variety) and really really really wished that I could have Lasik. But guess who hadn't reach the stage in her life where she saved up enough money for it?
So there I was, just drivin' around St. George with Dillon on our way to the river for some skimboarding (and watching of the skimboarding...), when I saw on Facebook that Hoopes Vision was having another contest. Maybe you avid readers remember back when I entered their video contest with this gem (strange it didn't win).
The contest asked whether or not I wanted to win two free Jazz tickets and the chance to compete to win free Lasik at their halftime contest. So, nbd, of course I was like, "fo sho, in a heartbeat!" I signed myself up and then signed Dillon up, too. Side note, he was surprised when the only piece of personal info I needed to ask him was his phone number. It's like we haven't been dating for over a year or something...
Anyway, I signed us up and then promptly forgot because I was enjoying the sun (and wedding planning), UNTIL:
Monday morning when I received a phone call from a man named Tom. I answered and Tom politely said that he was calling from Hoopes Vision and asked if this was Danielle. I said yes and then he asked if I remembered entering a contest. To which I said yes, thinking that he was just calling to set up a free consult which I had also said I was interested in. He then asked whether or not I would like to go to the Jazz game that night FOR FREE and be in the halftime obstacle course contest. I said that I thought that I would like that. He said he thought so, too.
So off we went to the Jazz game, super nervous but also super excited (so I sang a song about it called Nervous, But Excited--name that quote). I had no idea what to expect, but at the beginning of the second quarter we went on down to the meeting spot (in a super creeper corner under the bleachers) and met up with the other contestants and representatives from Hoopes Vision.
After filling out release forms (just in case we died or something) they explained that there would be four teams and two parts to every team. One team member would wear vision impairing (drunk) goggles and dribble down the court through cones, come back, then make a layup while the other member would rebound for them. As super great at basketball as I was in 8th grade (no), I figured it might be best if Dillon were to be the one doing all the basketbally stuff.
And boy, was I right! That guy was so fast getting down and back through those cones it was as if he was born to play basketball blind! He made the winning shot on the first try!
So ladies and gentlemen, I am getting my dream surgery and the gift of sight shall be upon me!! And just in time to get married, too!
P.S. We also won a free Jazz blanket. You can come over and take a nap with it if you'd like.
You're the winningest winner this week! (Except for that fact that the fridge is broken. That is not winning at all.)
ReplyDeleteAlso ew, what time did you go to bed?! This was posted at 1:18 am! Sheesh, looks like you stay up even later when Dillon isn't around haha
wow that's amazing! Congrats, my most blind friend!
ReplyDeleteI will be over in an hour to nap with the blanket. Can we spoon?
That. Is. So. Cool.
